Most of time when I sit down to make a card with a new stamp set or die, I just play with the supplies until they inspire me. But occasionally, I’ll have a very specific layout or color scheme in mind from the start and I’ll end up trying a few different ways to execute it. The results are usually surprising and you can end up loving the version you thought you would hate or maybe creating a whole set of cards to give to a friend!
I knew I wanted to use warm autumn colors on these cards, so I started by trimming pieces of Royal Sundance Linen Burgundy Cardstock and Gold Bright Foil Cardstock to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and pieces of Royal Sundance Felt Natural Cardstock and Royal Sundance Linen Burgundy Cardstock to 4.125″ x 5.375″.
Stamp the floral image (Simon Says Stamp) in the upper left corner of the 4.125″ x 5.375″ panels using Versamark ink, add gold embossing powder, and melt it with a heat tool. A MISTI can help a lot for this step if you want all of your cards to look exactly the same and want to be able to reproduce the design quickly.
Using a gold metallic colored pencil, I lightly added color to the burgundy panel where the highlights might be in the image.
I wanted a pretty smooth blend of color for the natural colored panel, but also wanted the beautiful texture of the cardstock to show through, so I first added shading with a deep red colored pencil and then blended matching ink over top lightly with detail blending brushes. The areas colored burgundy on this panel were opposite to the areas colored gold on the last panel.
Die cut the thanks sentiment (Simon Says Stamp) three times out of Royal Sundance Linen Burgundy Cardstock, twice out of Royal Sundance Felt Natural Cardstock, and once out of Gold Bright Foil Cardstock.
To assemble the cards, create two A2-sized card bases out of Royal Sundance Felt Natural Cardstock. Adhere the burgundy card front to the Gold Bright Foil mat layer with tape runner and then add this to the natural A2-sized card base.
Stack two of the burgundy sentiment die-cuts together with the gold die-cut on top, adhering them altogether and to the card front with liquid glue.
Repeat the same steps with the natural card front, using the large burgundy panel as the mat layer, and adhering them down with tape runner.
Stack the burgundy sentiment die-cut on top of two natural die-cuts and adhere them all together with liquid glue onto the card front.
