I recently returned from my surprise baby shower up north and was looking for a quick and easy way to thank everyone who attended…that was still handmade and thoughtful. The shower had a woodland animal theme, based on the decor of the nursery (more Silhouette decor projects to come soon!), so I wanted to incorporate that into the card design. When I found this adorable card design in the Silhouette Design Store, I knew it would be perfect…with only a few pieces to assemble (I needed to make upwards of 50 of these cards!), I could get these together rather quickly and still have that personalized touch.
The design cuts in four pieces, but I decided to use my paper trimmer and We R Memory Keepers Corner Rounder to make the card bases since I was using thick cardstock (“Soft Sky” by Stampin’ Up) and didn’t want to wear down my blade needlessly. The birch tree background and mini pennant were cut from some lightweight textured cardstock from Colorbok (cuts beautifully with the Silhouette!), while the fox was cut from Silhouette Adhesive Cardstock in Burnt Orange (the perfect red fox color!) and layered over white Colorbok cardstock. I adhered many, many foam squares to the back of each birch panel and embossed a sentiment from Hero Arts (“Year Round Sentiments“) onto my pennant before assembling.
It took a little while…but I finished up all of my thank you cards this past weekend. The birch tree panels were the most time-consuming to attach because I had to remove the backings on all of those tiny foam squares, but I think it was well-worth the extra dimension I got in the end on these cards.
Since I was mailing all of these, I used Multi Medium Matte from Ranger to firmly attach the fox and sentiment to each card. I am pretty pleased with how they came out considering how many I had to make…now let’s hope my recipients like them!
I hope you enjoyed this quick and simple Silhouette project and would love to hear what you think!
Adorable card and perfect for the occasion. I ordered the svg from Silhouette through your site & noticed that it is quite large. Did you cut yours down for your cards?
Thanks,
Robin
Hi Robin! Yes, I sized my cards down to a little larger than 3.5 inches by 5 inches and it still cut great. I agree, the original is very large!
