One of the things I love most about slimline cards is the ability to really stretch a scene to new lengths or heights, but vertical cards are sometimes a challenge for me in this format because stamped images are rarely easy to stretch out super tall. Unless you want your characters to float up the page (perfectly fine for space, ocean, and air scenes!), it takes a little work to build up levels of height. Today I had fun building a snowy hillside and night sky for these super cute new gnomes from Rubbernecker and thought I would share a brief how-to.
CREATING THE SNOWY BACKGROUND
- Die cut white cardstock with the largest die from the Slimline Nested Ticket Stitch die set.
- Stamp the Splatter Background over the top half of the die-cut using Versamark Ink, cover with white embossing powder, and melt with a heat tool.
- Blend Rose, Lavender, Sky, Odyssey, and Azure inks over the embossed area with a blending brush from bottom to top as shown to create a winter’s night sky.
BUILDING THE SNOW BANKS
- Die cut white shimmer cardstock twice with the largest die from the Slimline Nested Ticket Stitch die set.
- Die cut three snowy hills of different heights and slopes from the ends of the die-cut panels using the Stitched Hills die set.
- Lightly blend Sonata ink over the stitched edges of each snowy hill to make them stand out when stacked.
COLORING THE IMAGES
- Stamp the gnomes, fox, and pine tree from the Garden Gnomes and Woodland Animals #1 stamp sets in black ink onto watercolor paper.
- Watercolor each image (I used Peerless Watercolors) and die cut them out with the Garden Gnomes and Woodland Animals #1 die sets.
CARD ASSEMBLY
- Trim a piece of black cardstock to 3.25″ x 8.25″ and adhere it to a side-folding slimline-sized card base with tape runner.
- Layer the three snowy hills on top of each other and adhere them together with liquid glue or tape runner.
- Adhere the ink-blended background panel to the card base with foam adhesive and then pop the snowy hills up on top using more foam adhesive.
- Tuck the pine tree behind the highest snowy hill and adhere to the background with liquid glue, allowing some of the branches to pop up a bit for dimension.
- Pop the gnomes and fox up on the different levels of the scene with foam adhesive.
- Stamp the sentiment from the Holly Circle Gnome Sentiment Set on black cardstock using Versamark Ink, cover it in white embossing powder, and melt with a heat tool. Cut it out using one of the windows in the Slimline Inside Rounded Square die and adhere to the top left corner using foam adhesive.
I hope you enjoyed this cute Christmas slimline card and thanks so much for stopping by today. Be sure to check out Rubbernecker Stamps on Instagram or visit their Facebook Fan Group for tons of inspiration!
