I love winter with all my heart, but we’ve been having warmer weather here lately and it seems to have made me skip right into early spring cards. Will I get back to making frosty wintertime cards before Easter rolls along? It’s hard to say…but I am happy that my current mood gave me a chance to use these adorable new stamps and dies I ordered a few weeks ago from Hero Arts!
I started by stamping a few of the images from the Unbearably Thankful stamp set onto some Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock. After coloring them with my Copic markers, I used the coordinating dies to cut them out. Honestly, I don’t buy a ton of coordinating die sets because know I can always fussy-cut images out (even though it’s a total pain to do so sometimes!) and save my precious money for other supplies…but when I know the images will be used in scenes (like critter and people stamps or even trees and buildings), I usually splurge for the dies to make my life a little easier.
To create the background, I trimmed a piece of white cardstock to 4.125″ x 5.375″ and placed a 0.75″ wide strip of masking paper a little ways up from the bottom of the panel. Then I placed the Honeycomb Stencil on top and blended Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide Ink all over the panel using my domed ink blending tools. Wild Honey Distress Oxide Ink was blended just around the edges of the panel through the stencil.
When I removed the stencil and the masking paper, I was left with the perfect little white strip to stamp my greeting in using Vintage Photo Distress Oxide Ink (I used my MISTI to stamp it three times because it was coming out pretty splotchy with just one impression). Then I grabbed one of my Nested Hexagon dies and cut a window out of the top part of the panel.
The “sky” behind the card front was created from just a small piece of white cardstock that I lightly blended Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean Distress Oxide Inks over using a domed ink blending tool.
To assemble, I just adhered the blended sky panel to a top-folding A2-sized white card base using tape runner, then popped the honeycomb panel up on top with foam adhesive. After arranging the die-cut images just how I liked them, I added a little more foam adhesive to them secure them down.
I wanted a small tree branch to hold my bee hive in my scene, and found the perfect one in an old My Monthly Hero Kit from September 2018 (still available here!). I’ve been a subscriber to the My Monthly Hero Kits since nearly the beginning, and always seem to turn to them for hard-to-find images or sentiments to complete my cards.
I hope I’ve inspired you to join us over at A Blog Named Hero for this month’s “Anything Goes” challenge. Get creative with your favorite Hero Arts products for a chance to win a gift voucher to the Hero Arts store!
