I’m already a day behind with so many more days of class to go…sigh… For Day 3, I chose one of the sketches and kept with the color scheme. All of the bee cards I’ve seen in class lately had reminded me that I had this great stamp set from Fiskars called “Beary Fun”. I would have loved to include more of the images on my card from that set, but simply didn’t have the time to color them. So here is what I came up with:
I really tried to force this card into the direction of the second sketch, but the tall striped part of the sketch was just laughing at me as I struggled to assemble the right set of colors. So after like an hour of fighting with that sketch, I turned to sketch #3 and things started coming together immediately.
I chose a pattern from Authentique’s “Carefree” collection for the large rectangle and loved how it resembled a picnic table cloth…so I decided my bear was at a picnic and matted that piece on some chocolate brown cardstock. The honeycomb pattern is from a Recollections paper pad, and I inked the edges with a little brown ink to give the shape more definition on top of the Neenah Desert Storm cardstock. The sentiment is from the same Fiskars stamp set and heat-embossed in white on some turquoise Stampin’ Up cardstock. (I actually had to apply one of the earlier techniques from class and mask off part of the sentiment because the curlicues went on forever.) I lightly inked the edges on the pennant as well.
The bear was colored in using Spectrum Noir markers: EB2, EB3, EB5. EB8, GB9, GB10 for the body and CT1, CT2, CT3, CT4 for the honey and bee’s nest. I was in a rush so didn’t really achieve as good of shading as I wanted. C’est la vie. The last touches were some 3D Crystal Lacquer on the honey to make it shine and white dashed lines around the outside to finish off the card.
Thanks for stopping by!
