It’s true, I’ve been stenciling a lot lately…but with so many beautiful new stencils being released, it’s hard not to try a bunch of them out when they’re one of the cheaper and more versatile craft supplies we can buy in this hobby. Today’s post is kinda an ode to getting inky. With stenciling, stamping, and gilding all in one, I really enjoyed creating a couple of simple and colorful autumn cards with some previously released products from Hero Arts.
I started by stamping out three autumn trees onto some Desert Storm Cardstock using the Color Layering Fall Trees Stamp Set and several shades of Distress Oxide Inks (Candied Apple, Carved Pumpkin, Mustard Seed, Mowed Lawn, and Gathered Twigs). The Distress Oxide Inks stamp beautifully on colored cardstock and I love the look of kraft cardstock for fall projects. Once dry, I die cut the panel to about 3″ x 4.25″ with one of the A2 Layers Dies.
Next I trimmed pieces of Cranberry and Chestnut cardstocks to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and lightly adhered the Leaves Pattern stencil (from the June 2019 My Montly Hero Kit – still available!) and Woodgrain stencil on top with Pixie Spray. I applied the same Distress Oxide Inks as before over each stencil in random areas using ink blending brushes, but when I lifted the stencil a bit I wasn’t in love with my random rainbow pattern! So, I shifted each stencil ever so slightly from its original position and then applied Candied Apple Distress Oxide Ink over the entire panel again. This left me with a muted multi-colored pattern and an almost 3D effect that I was much more satisfied with.
To add a touch of golden autumn-ness, I roughly applied gold metallic wax around the edges of both the stamped and stenciled panels with a foam blending tool. I wanted a slightly uneven look, so wasn’t very careful with my application.
Sentiments from the Color Layering Fall Trees stamp set were stamped over the tree trunks with Versamark Ink. Gold Embossing Powder was added and then melted with a heat tool.
To assemble the cards, I simply adhered the stenciled panels to an A2-sized kraft card base with tape runner. Stamped panels were then popped up on top with foam adhesive.
I hope you’ve enjoyed these colorful and inky fall cards and thanks so much for stopping by today. A new challenge begins over at A Blog Named Hero on the 15th with great prizes from Hero Arts, so I hope you’ll join us!
