Dies are one of the more expensive items in this hobby, so I tend to gravitate toward the more versatile ones. Sentiment dies in a classic font, background dies in a fairly generic pattern, and basic border dies make up the biggest part of my stash outside of nested shape dies. Most of the Spellbinders Club Kits this month fit right into one of these categories, and the Small Die of the Month Kit happens to fit in all three!
The May 2020 Small Die of the Month Kit contains a beautiful sentiment die and several intricate strip dies that can be used as a border or combined to make a background too. Two of the dies cut out a decorative edge, but the rest of the strip dies can cut a design into a card front or be combined with the simple straight edge cutting die to cut a decorative edge as well.
I used two of the intricate strip dies along with one of the edge dies to create a gorgeous intricate background out of white cardstock that reminded me of a macramé beach cover up. Popped up over an ink blended background created with Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers, and Blueprint Sketch Distress Inks, I thought it made the perfect summery backdrop for a best wishes card.
After adding a decorative oval to the center of the card cut out of the same bright white cardstock, I popped up a pretty gold sentiment on top that I created using my Glimmer Hot Foil Machine and Yana’s Sentiments Hot Foil Plates. For a bright summer bloom, I pulled out an older Glimmer Hot Foil Kit of the Month, Radiant Flowers, and applied gold foil to white cardstock before blending Carved Pumpkin, Ripe Persimmon, Twisted Citron, and Mowed Lawn Distress Inks over top with ink daubers.
And if clean and simple is your style, just use a couple of the dies from the kit to create an interesting card front. For this card, I started by cutting the sentiment and border dies on an angle out of white cardstock. Then I stamped some of the leafy branches from last month’s Stamp of the Month Kit in very pale pink ink for a little interest.
I simply popped this half-A2 panel up on top of a piece of pink cardstock that I had applied Opal Hot Foil (an iridescent foil that gives the design a watermark-like finish) to using my Glimmer Hot Foil Machine and the Flower Pattern Hot Foil Plate.
I hope you enjoyed this look at the May 2020 Small Die of the Month kit and thanks so much for stopping by today. If you missed the projects I made with the Large Die of the Month Kit, you can check them out here!
