Spellbinders Small Die of the Month – August 2020

August Club Kits are here from Spellbinders and I love how fun and unique they are this time!  This month’s Small Die of the Month kit, Sitting Pretty, includes twelve dies for cutting beautiful petal-like shapes that can be layered to form mandalas or borders as well as a complete mini alphabet.  Inspired by a recent drive I took to a secluded beach, I used the kit to create two cards this month with ocean color schemes.

This first card shows how you can piece together the die-cuts to form a mandala.  After cutting the different petal-like shapes out of three shades of teal cardstock, I adhered them to a piece of sandy grey cardstock with liquid glue.  I then matted this panel with gold foil cardstock before popping it up on top of a side-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive.

The sentiment was foiled onto white cardstock using the More Sentiments Glimmer Plate Set, Gold Hot Foil, and my Glimmer Hot Foil Machine before trimming it down to a tiny strip and adhering it over the mandala with foam adhesive.  A few gold rhinestones scattered around the mandala finished off this clean and simple card.

(With a different sentiment and some sparkle, this could definitely pass for a snowy holiday card too!)

Playing with a cooler color palette this time, I thought I’d try to make an interesting border element by lining the petal shapes up in a row for this card.  After adhering tiny cobalt and turquoise blue flowers to the tips of silver foil and white petals, I stacked them and adhered them together to form a fun floral chain.  The greeting was cut out of the same silver foil cardstock and adhered with liquid glue to a small strip that I blended Salty Ocean and Blueprint Sketch Distress Inks onto.

I wanted to keep most of the card white, but thought it looked a bit plain, so I created a subtle embossed pattern using the Bloom Wall Stencil and a rubber embossing mat in my diecutting machine.  After matting the embossed panel with a piece of silver foil cardstock, I adhered it all to a side-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive.  The floral chain and sentiment strip were then added with more foam adhesive.

I hope you enjoyed this look at the August 2020 Small Die of the Month kit and thanks so much for stopping by today.  I’ll be back with inspiration for some of the other August club kits very soon.  And don’t miss this Buy One, Get One Free offer on select die sets found here going on now until Sunday, August 9th!
