With springtime looming in less than 10 days, there’s no better time for an adorable bunny action card like this. The March 2021 Large Die of the Month Kit from Spellbinders, “Spring Together with Lever Pull“, is a huge die set complete with several cute spring critters, plenty of scenic elements, an action lever system, and even a couple of sentiments. You have all the dies you’d need in this set to make several different complete cards, but I decided to add a separate frame to my action card to show its versatility.
I started by cutting my critter, sentiment, and scene out of various colors of cardstock. For a little depth, I lightly blended Vintage Photo Distress Ink on parts of my bunny, Picked Raspberry on the lower portion of the sentiment, Mowed Lawn onto the blades of grass, and Broken China to the bottom of the clouds. Assemble the die-cuts, but remember to leave the bunny head separate from the body so that he can be attached to the action lever properly. (Assembly video can be found here.)
I chose to use the double lever mechanism for my card, which I placed behind a panel of light blue cardstock that I had adhered to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive. I inked the panel a bit with Broken China Distress Ink using blending brushes for some added interest in the sky.
My frame was created by diecutting white cardstock with the largest rectangle and pattern rectangle dies from the Candlewick Rectangles Die Set, followed by diecutting with the second largest oval die from the Essential Ovals Die Set.
Once I had adhered the frame over the lever mechanism in the card base, it was just a matter of adding the bunny and all of the scenic elements to the card.
And here is a look at how this cute little guy moves…just think of all of the ways you can use this lever mechanism! And if action cards aren’t your thing, the critters, scenes, and sentiments can all be used without it.
