It’s been a tough summer and most of us are not traveling nearly as much as we usually do, if at all…but I was happy to have a chance to visit some exotic destinations in my mind while I played with the latest Card Kit of the Month from Spellbinders. The “Around The World” kit is full travel-themed dies, papers, and stamps, but most of the kit contents would work great for school themes (hello globe die set!), graduation cards, or general summer projects as well.
If I had to pick a favorite part of the kit, it would be the die set. With 9 pieces that cut everything from travel icons to tropical scenes and even a globe, it will gain a permanent spot in my die collection! For this card, I cut the globe out of black and light blue cardstock and adhered the “journey” sentiment from the die-cuts pack on top with foam adhesive. To create the colorful background, I stamped the solid hotel key fob image from the included stamp set repeatedly in different colors. Then I stamped the outline detail key fob image in black, offsetting it just a bit to give it a sketchy printed pattern look.
The die set also cuts a circular tropical scene…so I created a golden palm tree scene, stamped a little airplane onto the blue backer die-cut, and trimmed a bit off the bottom to set it on top of one of the chipboard sticker sentiments for a “snow globe” look. After adding this to a card base covered in some of the pretty patterned paper from the kit, I tucked a few “me time” tickets and a couple of tropical drink die-cuts around the globe to embellish.
With so many pretty, feminine images in the kit, it’s easy to make cards that have nothing to do with travel. I created a background out of some of the more neutral patterned papers in the kit, using the circle die to cut a cave out for my pretty pink leopard die-cut. After adding some bright tropical leaf and flower die-cuts around the edges, it looked decidedly “80s” to me, so I added the foiled “awesome!” die-cut to finish off this fun card.
My last card is a fun way to invite a friend on a trip to NYC (here’s hoping it’s safe to go again soon!). After creating a background from the patterned papers in the kit, I popped a line of skyscraper die-cuts and a chipboard taxi cab up on top to set the scene. Then I embellished a key fob with a few extra die-cuts to customize the greeting.
I hope you enjoyed this look at the August 2020 Card Kit of the Month and thanks so much for stopping by today. Stay tuned for one more look at the August club kits coming soon!
