Pre-teens are some of my favorite people to make cards for…I get to experiment with new ideas and use lots of sparkle and bright colors and they love it all! So today, I decided to just have some fun with this card.
I started with the “Party Time” stamp set. The cupcake and sentiment were stamped in Versafine Onyx Black ink on Crafter’s Companion Watercolor Cardstock and colored with Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pens (colors listed below). I played with some blending to give the cupcake some of that fun two-toned icing that you see in the supermarket bakery too. 🙂
The domed front was created with the Aurora Create-A-Card die. These dies are the size of an entire card front (6″ x 6″ in this case) but do not cut around the outside edge, so you can add them in interesting places to your projects. With a 6″ x 6.5″ piece of White Pearl Shimmering Cardstock I used the die to first cut the pattern, then emboss by running it through my die-cut machine a second time, and finally stencil by applying blue ink through the open areas.
To make the front dome out, I simply folded the extra quarter-inch of card front on either side around the back of a 6″ x 5″ piece of Yellow Pearl Shimmering Cardstock and glued it in place. Then I added the cupcake behind the window and a twist of red baker’s twine to the one side, and placed it all on top of a white cardbase to hide the overlapping areas.
I’ll have to hand-deliver this card, but I think my little friend is going to appreciate all the fun ideas and color. Thanks for stopping by today!
