Sympathy cards are never easy to make…especially when you’re pressed to make them. So, I prefer to have a couple on hand for those tough times that we aren’t prepared for otherwise. I’ve used the Marianne’s Flowers stamp set several times in the past and I think the classic images just pair well with a thoughtful sentiment like this.
I starting by stamping the rose image from the stamp set in Memento Rich Cocoa ink onto some Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock. I thought the subtle brown ink suited a sympathy card more, and kept the coloring soft as well using Copic markers.
Next I placed several sentiments from the Prayers Stamp & Cut set onto some acrylic blocks and freehand stamped an entire background panel (4″ x 5.25″ of Neenah cardstock) with them. This process might be more precise if you use a MISTI, but it’s quicker using acrylic blocks in my opinion. Then I blended some of the same ink around the edges to finish the panel off.
Note: I used Soft Sand Shadow Ink for this step, which appears to be discontinued…but Soft Brown is a beautiful alternative!
The sentiment (from the same Prayers Stamp & Cut set) was stamped in Versamark ink onto a 4″ strip of pink cardstock, covered in white embossing powder, and heated until melted. I then scored the strip 0.75″, 1″, 3″, and 3.25″ to create a dimensional banner, followed by simple snips on each end with my Cutterbee scissors to form flagged ends.
The background panel was adhered to a top-folding A2-sized card base made from some Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock with foam tape. Both the colored rose image and the sentiment banner were adhered with foam tabs as well.
