Snowy Pine Cone Card

Several beautiful stencils were released by Clear Scraps a couple of months ago, so today I’m sharing a quick tutorial to make this snowy pine cone card with two of my favorites.  This pine cone image is pretty versatile and could be used for really any season or occasion depending on how you embellish it!

Trim a piece of white cardstock to 4″ x 6″ and secure the Pine Cone stencil over top.  Apply Mowed Lawn, Twisted Citron, Brushed Corduroy, Gathered Twigs, and Ground Espresso Distress Oxide Inks through the stencil with a sponge dauber, using the darker shades towards the inside of the pine cone and pine branches, and the lighter shades towards the outside of the pine cone or tips of the pine needles.  If you work quickly enough, you can add clear embossing powder over the entire stenciled image afterward and melt it with a heat tool.  (This method helps with the next step.)

Blend Tumbled Glass Distress Ink all over the stenciled panel with a blending brush…since the pine cone image has been covered with clear embossing, it should resist the ink and allow for the bright colors of the images to show through (buff off any extra ink from the embossed areas with a paper towel if needed).  Blend Broken China Distress Ink just around the edges of the panel for a bit of depth.

Lay the Snowflake stencil over top of the panel and apply White Glitz Glitter Gel through it with a palette knife.  Immediately remove the stencil and rinse it in warm soapy water.  Allow the panel to dry for several hours.

Trim white cardstock to 6.5″ x 9″ and score it down the center to form a top-folding card base.  Trim silver glitter cardstock to 4.25″ x 6.25″ and green matte mirror cardstock to 4.5″ x 6.5″ to mat the stenciled panel.  Die cut a fun winter sentiment (Diamond Press) from both silver glitter and green matte mirror cardstock.

Adhere the stenciled panel to the silver glitter cardstock, green matte mirror cardstock, and card base with tape runner.  Adhere the silver die cut sentiment on top of the green matte mirror die cut sentiment with liquid glue, allowing the green cardstock to peek out from behind like a shadow, then pop the layered sentiment up in the corner with foam adhesive.

I hope you enjoyed this fun wintry card project and thanks so much for stopping by today.  With so many gorgeous new 4×6 stencils in the Clear Scraps shop, which one will you pick for your next card project?
