Have you ever colored an image or found a pretty piece of patterned paper and wanted to create a card that was just a bit different but didn’t want to spend all day doing it? The new Slanted Blinds Dies from The Stamp Doctor help you transform an otherwise pretty standard card front into something just a little more interesting…and it takes no time at all! I have lots of examples to share showing several ways to use these, so let’s get right into it.
I started by printing a digital stamp of a mum onto some white cardstock and coloring it in fall colors using Copic markers. Although I originally intended to only add a thin light blue border around the image, I ended up coloring over an area large enough to fit an A2-sized card to make a super bright and cheerful background.
The dies themselves are slightly smaller than an A2 card because you’ll be pulling the pieces of your card front apart slightly after cutting. I positioned the Slanted Blinds Die #3 (this style cuts and adds a really unique stitch-dot-stitch pattern around each piece) so that the flower was on the left-hand side of the card and ran it through my die-cutting machine.
Each die includes an alignment tool to help you get all of the pieces onto your card in exactly the right place. I lined up the pieces of my colored image on the guide and used Post-It tape on either side to hold them in place while I flipped them all over and added foam adhesive to the back. Once I had turned them back over and pressed them onto an A2-sized white card base, I could carefully remove the low-tack tape.
Since the design is so unexpected and the edges are finished nicely with that unique stitching pattern, I didn’t think the card need much in the way of embellishment. I die cut a quick “Happy Birthday” sentiment from some navy blue and silver glitter cardstock and added them across the bottom to finish off the card.
For an even faster card, you can use the dies to cut some of your favorite patterned paper. I loved this little winter barn scene from the Christmas Market Collection, so thought it would make a beautiful card front and turned the Slanted Blinds Die #1 (cut line only) on its side to make a landscape card this time.
The barn scene, one of the 4″ x 6″ notecards in the collection, was slightly smaller than the die, so I just centered the die over top and ran it through my die-cutting machine. To create a mat layer for the scene, I cut black glitter paper with the A2 Layers Dies.
Like before, I only needed to add a small silver bow to one corner and a fun sentiment circle to another to call this card complete. Images from the Let It Snow stamp set were stamped in Versamark ink onto white cardstock and heat embossed in silver. Even subtle patterns can make great cards with these cool dies. I chose this poinsettia print from the same Christmas Market Collection and cut it horizontally with the Slanted Blinds Die #1 as before. After inking the edges of each piece with Black Soot Distress Ink for a little more definition, I adhered them to some gold glitter cardstock with foam adhesive.
The sentiment is one of the cardstock stickers from the collection, applied to black cardstock, and fussy-cut with a small border before popping it up in the lower corner with foam adhesive. A simple red bow is all I added to finish this super quick card off.
How about taking things just one step further though for an even more unique look? Here I’ve matted each of the pieces on this colorful autumn card with deep red cardstock…and it’s probably easier than you think!
First, I die cut some pretty plaid paper from the Mad 4 Plaid Fall Collection with the Slanted Blinds Die #2 (cut & stitch style) and some matching red cardstock with the Slanted Blinds Die #1 (cut only style).
Then, I sliced each red piece in half using my paper trimmer and adhered it to the back of the plaid paper using a fine-line glue pen so that an approximately 1/16″ border showed on the top and bottom of each piece. Adhere the pieces to an ivory card base using foam adhesive as before.
For embellishments, I die cut a Hello sentiment and some daisies and leafy swirls from red, ivory, and gold cardstock. These were layered and adhered together with a fine-tip glue pen for lots of color and dimension.
I really love how much color and contrast the extra mat layers in this one add! With three different cut and/or stitch styles to choose from, you can have a lot of fun mixing and matching the dies for tons of different looks.
