If you love coloring like me, then the new slimline stamps from Rubbernecker are perfect for you! Sized to fill an entire 3.5″ x 8.5″ card front, they resemble an adult coloring page with their intricate patterns and are themed for several different occasions. What if you love the designs but don’t love coloring? No problem…here I’ve used a twist on the classic Joseph’s Coat Technique to create these vibrant ink blended cards that still show off the gorgeous slimline stamp designs.
EASY HALLOWEEN SLIMLINE CARD
The Slimline Halloween Stamp has so many fun details in it, but I chose just a handful of my favorites images to highlight with bright Halloween colors. Keep reading to see how!
- Start by trimming a piece of white cardstock to 3.5″ x 8.5″.
- Using a blending brush (this helps to create smoother transitions between colors that normally wouldn’t blend well), apply Grass, Apricot, Magenta, and Hearth inks all over the white cardstock.
- Set aside until completely dry (this is very important for the next step!).
- Dust the inked panel with an anti-static powder bag or tool to ensure that embossing powder will not stick to areas you don’t want it on.
- Lay the Slimline Halloween Stamp face up on your table and apply Versamark Ink all over the surface. Press the inked panel on top, rubbing all over for a complete impression.
- Add silver embossing powder and melt with a heat tool.
- Using a water-based marker (like Memento or Tombow Dual Brush Pens), quickly color over most of the design with black ink, leaving some objects alone for pops of bright color along the way. A brush-tipped marker helps get into some of those nooks and crannies around the images.
- Lightly buff the silver-embossed areas with a soft towel to remove any excess ink.
Tip: Adding black ink to the details within some of the images you left colored (like the eyes of the jack o’lantern or windows in the haunted house) really helps those designs pop!
- Trim the panel down to 3.25″ x 8.25″ to clean up any messy edges.
- Adhere to a top-folding 3.5″ x 8.5″ black card base with foam adhesive.
I love the spooky feel of this card…it reminds me of the bursts of smoky color you see rising from the earth in classic horror movies. What a fun way to send Halloween greetings to someone!
SIMPLE AUTUMN SLIMLINE CARD
This next card is made in much the same way as its Halloween counterpart, but with vibrant golden colors for autumn. I love how beautifully the Color Fuse Inks blend to create smooth coloring that almost appears to glow.
- Start again by trimming a piece of white cardstock to 3.5″ x 8.5″.
- Using a blending brush, apply Custard, Apricot, Crimson, and Cinnamon inks all over the white cardstock.
- Set aside until completely dry.
- Dust the inked panel with an anti-static powder bag or tool.
- Lay the Slimline Fall Stamp face up on your table and apply Versamark Ink all over the surface. Press the inked panel on top, rubbing all over for a complete impression.
- Add gold embossing powder and melt with a heat tool.
- Using a Tombow Dual Brush Pen, I quickly colored over most of the design with brown ink this time, leaving most of the objects alone while darkening the swirls and flourishes.
- Lightly buff the gold-embossed areas with a soft towel to remove any excess ink.
- Die cut the panel using the largest die from the Slimline Nested Stitch Dies.
- Emboss the greeting from the Autumn Harvest Stamp Set in brown on gold vellum and trim just above and below the sentiment to form a long strip. Wrap the strip around the center of the colored panel and adhere it to the back with tape runner.
- Mat the panel with brown cardstock, adhering it down with foam adhesive before adding the whole card front to a side-folding 3.5″ x 8.5″ white card base.
I hope you enjoyed these fun and easy slimline cards and thanks so much for stopping by today. Be sure to check out Rubbernecker Stamps on Instagram or visit their Facebook Fan Group for tons of inspiration!
