Happy Mother’s Day! In honor of this important holiday, I thought I’d share a frilly and feminine card featuring a couple of new products from Crafter’s Companion. My mom has been liking ornate floral cards and muted tones lately, so it was the perfect time to break out my 48 new colors of Spectrum Noir markers (Nature and Vintage sets) and nestle a cute image inside of this intricate die-cut card base.
I started by coloring my image, stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink using an adorable Bebunni set called “Brighten My Day”. Using mostly new marker colors (listed below), I added smooth, traditional shading to the daffodil first. To give the bunny some fluffy texture, I dotted some warm greys in the shadow areas instead of using smooth strokes.
The mound of earth beneath him was sketched in quickly by hand, then texturized using the same stippling technique. Wispy strokes of TB1 filled in the sky.
To create the card base, I first trimmed a piece of construction cardstock (this stuff is super smooth and REALLY thick) to 6″ x 12″, then scored it at 2″, 4″ 8″, and 10″. Positioning my Sophia Create-A-Card die on the score lines two inches in from each edge, I die-cut the ornate pattern with my Gemini, followed by inking with Tea Dye Distress ink. Decorative panels were trimmed from the Little Angel 12 x 12 Paper Pad to 3.75″ x 5.75″ and 1.75″ x 5.75″ and inked around the edges.
I added pieces of die-cuts from the same Sophia die on the top and bottom of the colored image to frame it nicely before adhering it to the center of the card. After die-cutting the sentiment (“Only Words” dies), flowers (“Sweet William” dies), and leaves from white cardstock, I inked them with a bit of Fossilized Amber and Peeled Paint Distress ink and scattered them around the rest of the card.
Here is a closer look at all of those tiny elements. Liquid glue is a must if you don’t want cards like these to fall apart (I like Ranger Multi Medium Matte for super intricate cards).
I hope you enjoyed this Mother’s Day card and thanks so much for stopping by today! Have you tried the new Spectrum Noir markers yet?
