Happy Monday friends! I’m excited to share a few projects today made with the new Monster Birthday Collection from Spellbinders (you can check out the rest of the January release here…so much fun stuff in this release!) This collection is full of adorable creatures ready to celebrate birthdays or other fun occasions with you. I created four bright and fun cards for various occasions using nearly the entire collection and I hope you love them as much as I loved creating them!
DRAGON TACO PARTY CARD
There’s only one thing dragons love more than parties and tacos, and that’s taco parties. When I saw the adorable creature in the Dancin’ Birthday Dragon Die Set, I knew I had to make a card for my son based on one of his favorite books – Dragons Love Tacos. I cut the little guy out of red and orange cardstock to look like the dragon on the cover of the book and added him on top of an arch cut with the Make A Wish Arch Labels Die Set and stamped with a cute sentiment from the Monster Birthday Sentiments Stamp Set.
For the background, I started by blending Salty Ocean Distress Ink around the edges of a panel of Glacier Cardstock and then embossed it with the Columns Embossing Folder. Then I cut and assembled 10 tacos using one of my favorite old Large Die of the Month Sets – Food Truck (on super sale right now!). I adhered the tacos directly to the background with liquid glue and trimmed off any excess with a pair of scissors before adding my arch on top with foam adhesive. Check out how my dragon dances too!
DANCING PANDA BIRTHDAY CARD
Next I wanted to play with the sweet little critter from the Dancin’ Panda Birthday Die Set. I cut her from white and black cardstock, shading the white bits with a little Lost Shadow Distress Ink to add a little interest before adding pink glasses cut using the Smart Glasses Die Set. Since my little girl is turning six this year, I cut a fun number balloon for her to hold out of Fruit Punch Cardstock using the Birthday Balloons Die Set.
I found some pretty pastel plaid patterned paper in my stash for the background and matted it with Teal Topaz Cardstock before adding it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base. Then I cut white cardstock using one of the dies from the Heartfelt Thanks & Scallops Die Set and stamped a simple greeting on the bottom using the Monster Birthday Sentiments Stamp Set. The panda and balloon were popped up on top with foam adhesive and check out her little swaying legs!
DINOSAUR SHAPED CARD
How about a cute shaped card to wish someone a great day? I cut the adorable dinosaur from the Birthday Dinosaur Die Set out of Pink Sand and Fruit Punch Cardstock to make a sweet shaped card for my daughter. To make her even sweeter, I added the wreath of flowers from the set on top of her head too. She stands upon a hill cut from Rainforest Cardstock using the Color Block Scenic Scape Die Set and embossed in white with yet another cute greeting from the Monster Birthday Sentiments Stamp Set.
I created a card base out of white cardstock using the largest die from the Make A Wish Arch Labels Die Set and added a layer of Glacier Cardstock (Salty Ocean Distress Ink blended around the edges) as the background cut with the next largest die from the set. Once my hill and dinosaur were placed on the front of the card with foam adhesive, I cut a couple of clouds using the On Cloud Nine Die Set and popped them up in the background to finish off this perfect little scene.
MONSTER APOLOGY CARD
I love that the collection contains sentiments for so many occasions other than birthdays too! This cute little monster from the Dancin’ Birthday Monster Die Set looks great in colors reminiscent of Sully from Monsters, Inc.! I used the same layout for him as my first card with the dragon, choosing to mount him on top of an arch cut with the Make A Wish Arch Labels Die Set and stamped with a greeting from the Monster Birthday Sentiments Stamp Set.
This time I created a simple background by applying Opaque White Hot Foil to Teal Topaz Cardstock using the Geometric Optical Background Glimmer Plate and my Glimmer Hot Foil System. Once mounted on a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive, I added the monster and arch on top with more foam adhesive. How cute are his little dancing legs?!
