Mini Treat Basket Holders

It’s funny where inspiration comes from.  I picked up a few bags of Cadbury Shimmer Mini Eggs to give as little treats for Easter and realized how much they resembled the shimmering cardstocks from CutCardStock…so I came up with these little treat basket holders!  They’re easier to assemble than you think and perfect for dressing up those small holiday gifts a bit.

Start by trimming a piece of Rose Quartz cardstock to about 5″ x 8.5″ and secure the Mini Coffee Cup Holder Die to it with washi tape.  If you don’t have a large format die cutting machine (or are too lazy to lug it out like I am), just run this sandwich through your machine with the die and paper hanging out the end as shown.

To finish the cut, carefully turn the paper and die around and run it through your machine to cut the other side.

The Mini Coffee Cup Holder is very easy to assemble, but there is a link to a video on the product page here if you need it.  I folded the cardstock on all of the score lines and burnished them with my bone folder before adding liquid glue to the tabs shown (blue arrows).

Once the base is assembled, we need to decorate it for Easter!  I took several colors of Stardream and Curious Metallic Cardstocks that matched my candy eggs and die cut all the floral décor.  The lattice and vine dies are from the Lovely Lattice Die Set and cut from Crystal and Fairway Stardream Metallic Cardstocks, respectively.  Using the Daisy Dies, I created multiple sizes of flower layers out of Kunzite, Gold, Aquamarine, and Rose Quartz Metallic Cardstocks.

Shaping a flower like this is pretty easy.  Turn each flower over to its backside and drag a fine-point stylus tool (this is a great set to try here!) from the outer tip of each petal to the center of the flower (this curls the petal backwards).  Then, turn the flower over and using a larger ball tool, make a circular motion in the center of the flower to pop all of the petals up.

Layer the flowers, varying the sizes, to create a full and pretty background.  Here I’ve first adhered the lattice to the back of the Mini Coffee Cup Holder with liquid glue, followed by the leafy vines, and then finally the layered flowers.  I added a few matte enamel dots to the centers of the flowers to finish them off as well.

You can easily decorate the outside of these Mini Coffee Cups to create a basket for any season using the Mini Coffee Cover Dies.  I realllllllly wanted to use this pretty plaid patterned paper I had in my stash but it only came in a 6″ x 6″ size.  As you can see, the die almost fit on the paper…the two nipped corners were going in the back of the basket and would barely be noticeable, so I used it anyway!  (Another great option would be this Easter Paper Pack here.)

I applied tape runner to the wrap die-cut and pressed it onto my mini coffee cup before securing the seam in the back with a thin line of liquid glue for stability.  Then I cut a strip of the same patterned paper to 0.5″ x 6″ and glued the ends on the inside of the cup to create my Easter basket.

The basket and holder are decorated, but don’t forget to add a greeting!  I had a little “Happy Easter” sentiment in my stash that fit perfectly into one of the FOUR label dies included in the Mini Coffee Cup Holder Die Set.  I stamped it in Versafine Onyx Black Ink onto some Crystal Stardream Metallic Cardstock, added clear embossing powder, and melted it with my heat tool (inks take a very long time to dry on the metallic cardstocks, so I always recommend heat-embossing).

So there you have it…a soft and pretty way to give someone extra special a little treat this Easter!  I hope you enjoyed this fun Easter gift project and thanks so much for stopping by today.  You can visit the CutCardStock and The Stamp Doctor stores to purchase any of the supplies used today and if you liked this project, I’d love to read your comments below!
