Marshmallows Under the Stars Card

My four-year-old son has two loves – Paw Patrol and being outdoors.  So ever since those lovable pups roasted marshmallows on an episode he watched a while back, my son has been begging me to camp in the back yard and eat marshmallows (which I’m pretty sure he doesn’t even like…).  The S’Mores Bonfire stamp set from Hero Arts flew into my cart when it was released last month, just so I could make some cards for him!

I started by stamping the raccoon, campfire, and squirrel images over top of the sentiment from the set onto some Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock (11o lb) using some of the new Gina K Designs Obsidian Amalgam Ink and my MISTI to ensure a level horizon under my critters.  The Obsidian Amalgam Ink stamps VERY black and is compatible with alcohol markers, watercolor, and colored pencils…and so far I’m loving it!

After coloring the images in with Copic markers, I drew a straight line slightly above where they were sitting on the cardstock and trimmed the excess away from above that line using my Cutterbee scissors, leaving a tiny white border to make the characters pop against my dark background.  If you have the coordinating dies, this step is much easier with a little partial die-cutting!

I then masked off the backside of a top-folding A2-sized white card base with wide Post-It tape and blended a nighttime sky over the front using Dusty Concord, Chipped Sapphire, and Salty Ocean Distress Oxide inks and a foam blending tool.  To add a glow around where the campfire would eventually be placed, I lightly blended Mustard Seed Distress Oxide Ink in a small area on top of the background too.

For a subtle but shiny starry night, I squeezed the barrel of a Clear Spectrum Noir Sparkle Pen to get the tip super juicy, and tapped the pen from about a foot above my project to get tons of shimmery splatters over my blended background.

Feeling the images needed a bit more grounding, I speckled in some gravel with my Copic markers and wrapped some rustic twine around the panel before adhering it on top of my card base with foam adhesive.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this cute summertime card project and thanks so much for stopping by today.  A new challenge begins over at A Blog Named Hero on the 15th with great prizes from Hero Arts, so I hope you’ll join us!
