With my daughter’s first birthday approaching, I am up to my ears in butterfly wings, wisteria, and pink and purple tulle. She’s a girly-girl for sure (the first time I put her in a fluffy floral dress she squealed), but she also loves the outdoors. So I figured there was no better theme for her party than “magical forest”…and since I’m a papercrafter, I always like to make my party invitations special!
I purchased a fairy-themed graphics bundle and arranged the elements and text in Photoshop. My preferred invitation size is 5″ x 7″ because you can print two to a page and they are big enough to include lots of information. I printed on 110 lb Neenah Classic Crest Solar White…because this cardstock is so thick you will likely need a straight-feed printer to use it (I use an Epson Stylus Photo R3000 or HP Officejet 3830), but it really makes for high quality notecard invitations (Basis White Cardstock is another great choice and slightly thinner). Alternatively, you can have CutCardStock print your invitations for you!
Once all of the invitations were cut out with a paper trimmer, I added a faint gilded edge to them with gold metallic wax and an ink blending tool. This finishes off the edges nicely and gives the invitations a magical metallic dusting!
My other favorite way to personalize invitations is with some simple heat embossing on the envelopes. Since I had about 50 invitations to send, I used a MISTI to stamp each Rose Quartz Stardream Metallic envelope with some fairy-themed images from Hero Arts (from a now-sold-out My Monthly Hero Kit, but similar images can be found here) in Versamark ink.
After adding white detail embossing powder to each one, I melted it with my heat tool and set them aside to cool. I love the look of the white designs on the soft and pretty pink metallic envelopes! (Be sure to arrange the images to leave room for the addresses and return addresses.)
The sheen on the envelopes coordinates beautifully with the metallic gold edges on the invitations.
