If you’re throwing an enchanted forest birthday party (or wedding) like me, you’ll probably need magical fairy jar centerpieces. And if you love working in paper and cardstock like I do, then this is the easy way to create them along with just a few other materials that you may already have on hand.
Start by choosing the vessel you’d like to place your fairies in. I chose smooth-sided mason jars because I had a whole case of them out in my garage, but you can also make a lantern or “jar” out of cardstock and vellum like this one here. Some fairy jars are glittered, chemically-etched, or painted, but I chose the simple and elegant route and just sprayed mine with frosted glass spray-paint.
Trim out thin strips of Pop Tone Black Licorice Cardstock to fit just inside the circumference of your jar or lantern and die cut the entire length with grassy or floral border dies. Here I’ve trimmed my strips to about 8.5″ long for the large mason jar and from between 1″ – 3″ wide depending on the height of the border die used.
Next, die cut the figures for your fairy jar using the same black cardstock. I chose a variety of fairies in different sizes as well as a unicorn (Enchanted Forest Collection – Crafter’s Companion).
Form a ring out of the die cut border strips by adhering the ends together with liquid glue, then adhere the figures to the ring using the same liquid glue.
Tip – Curl the paper a bit with your fingers before adhering to ensure it doesn’t bend…Pop Tone Cardstock is the perfect weight for this project because it die cuts beautifully and bends more easily than a heavier weight cardstock!
To decorate the outside of the jar, die cut flowers from Pop Tone Cotton Candy, Razzleberry, Grape Jelly, and Grapesicle cardstock. Ink the outer edges of rolled flowers and the center of flowers like the lily with coordinating inks and a sponge dauber for a more realistic appearance.
Shape the petals with a ball tool or your fingers and roll or layer them, adhering the final shape with liquid glue. Here I added some pre-made stamens to the lilies, but you can also use fringed cardstock if desired.
Insert the figure ring into the jar and place the jar onto a circle of green cardstock or a moss ring. Adhere the flowers around the base of the jar using hot glue and embellish with some greenery die cut from Spearmint Cardstock.
Finish the jar off with a matching bow around the neck and insert a flameless candle for evening parties (although I think the jars look beautiful during the daytime too!).
