I never seem to have enough birthday cards and always scramble to make them when someone’s special day rolls around, so lately I’ve been trying to stockpile a few extras in different styles. The pretty Teacup Flowers stamp set seemed like the perfect bunch of images to play with ink blending, so I grabbed a ton of inks and blended away!
Since ink blending goes so fast on small images like this, I stamped nearly the entire set twice onto some Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock using Versamark Ink. After adding white heat embossing powder and melting it with my heat tool, I blended two shades of each color family over top of each image using a sponge dauber and various Distress Inks (listed below).
Note: I love this little caddy for my sponge daubers and have one for each type of ink I like to blend with. I label each dauber with the ink name around the handle and store them away in the box without ever having to worry about the ink getting everywhere!
Once I had finished coloring all of my images, I fussy-cut them out using CutterBee scissors. If you have the coordinating dies (I was a dummy and didn’t get them!), then this step goes a whole lot faster.
The sentiment was created using the Happy Stamp & Cut Set. I cut the “happy” word out of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock three times, adhered them together using my Zig Two-Way Fine Tip Glue Pen, and inked the bottom of the die cut with Tumbled Glass Distress Ink using a sponge dauber.
And since I was already an ink-blending fool, I trimmed a panel of Neenah cardstock to 5.25″ x 4″ to create the card front and lightly inked the bottom of it with Hero Arts Soft Granite Shadow Ink as a way to ground the images.
For perfect placement and even inking of the rest of the sentiment, I used my MISTI to stamp the “birthday” in Versafine Onyx Black Ink just below the die cut word on the card front panel.
To finish off the card, I adhered the card front panel with foam tape to a top-folding A2 card base made from Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock. After deciding on the placement of the flowers in my teacup, I added them to the card using either foam tabs or liquid glue to give the arrangement tons of dimension.
I hope you enjoyed this soft and pretty birthday card and thanks so much for stopping by today. A new challenge begins over at A Blog Named Hero on May 15th with great prizes from Hero Arts, so I hope you’ll join us!
