Welcome to the weekend friends! I am excited to be back today to share a couple of projects made with the new Glimmering Flowers Collection from Spellbinders (check out the rest of the April release here…there’s a ton of great stuff this month!). This collection contains three gorgeous Glimmer plate sets as well as a couple of coordinating stencils perfect for creating bold and beautiful foiled floral cards like I’m sharing here.
GOLDEN BUTTERCUPS CARD
Even though I have dozens of different colors of hot foil, whenever I get a few new Glimmer plates, I always seem to try them out with Gold Hot Foil first. The Glimmering Buttercups Glimmer Plate is no exception! I applied Gold Hot Foil to white cardstock using this plate and added lots of bright colors to the image using the coordinating stencils and Distress Inks.
The design looked beautiful on white, but I decided to color the entire background with a black Copic marker to really amp up the contrast. These Glimmer plates are huge and I didn’t want to cut off any of the image, so I kept it full-size and added it to a top-folding A7-sized white card base with foam adhesive. The sentiment was foiled in gold onto white cardstock using the Curved Everyday Sentiments Plate & Die Set and I added a couple of Gold Mix Gems to embellish.
BOLD FLORAL RETIREMENT CARD
Next I wanted to experiment with some colors of foil that I haven’t used in while, so I applied Opaque Black Hot Foil to white cardstock using the Glimmering Peony Glimmer Plate. To add a nice background, I first blended Old Paper, Tea Dye, and Vintage Photo Distress Ink down the foiled panel before coloring the entire image in with Copic Markers. (When blending a background before coloring like this, try to choose lighter and complimentary colors of ink as it will tone your coloring a bit.)
After matting the panel with both Mirror Gold and Onyx Cardstock, I added the whole thing to a top-folding A7-sized white card base. The sentiment was foiled onto Onyx Cardstock using Gold Hot Foil and the Curved Everyday Sentiments Plate & Die Set. To finish the card off, I added some Gold Mix Gems.
SUBTLE FLORAL BIRTHDAY CARD
I wondered what the Glimmering Peonies image would look like in Opaque White Hot Foil too, so I applied the design to Silver Fox Cardstock as well. Using the coordinating stencils, I inked the image in various blue, teal, and purple Distress Inks. As you can see, the Opaque White Hot Foil grabs onto some of the ink where you blend over it, and I couldn’t remove all of it even with a barely damp paper towel…this creates a pretty and ethereal look that’s fun and different, even if it’s not exactly what I was aiming for!
I chopped just the sides off of my image panel and matted it with white and Onyx Cardstock before adding it to a top-folding A7-sized white card base. Then I applied Opaque White Hot Foil to Onyx Cardstock using the Curved Everyday Sentiments Plate & Die Set and added two of the strips to finish off the card.
