It’s release day friends! I’m so happy to be back today to share a couple of projects made with the new Game Day Collection by Justine Dvorak from Spellbinders. (Check out the rest of the September release here…so much amazing stuff this month!) This collection consists of three fun sports-themed die sets as well as some coordinating sentiments and even a cute embossing folder. I used most of the products in the collection to create two easy cards perfect for sending a quick note to the sports enthusiasts in your life!
Now, admittedly, I’m not the biggest sports fan you’ll ever meet, but there are two sports I follow and will attend games for…baseball and tennis. I grew up going to my brothers’ baseball games and was captain of my high school tennis team, so those are the two that continue to hold my interest now and the two I chose to represent in today’s cards!
BASEBALL JERSEY CELEBRATION CARD
Despite not being the biggest sports fan in the whole world, when it came time to pick my first child’s name, it was inspired by a baseball player. And since my son’s birthday is coming up this week, I designed this fun card for him with Chase Utley’s old Phillies uniform in mind. 😄 The Athletic Apparel Die Set allows you to create a jersey for nearly any sport with its interchangeable parts. After cutting it out of Fog Cardstock, I stamped the all-star sentiment on the top using the All Star Sentiments Stamp Set and added the Silver Fox’s old number on the back using the Jersey Numbers Die Set.
The background was created by embossing Cosmic Sky Cardstock with an old Embossing Folder of the Month (no longer available, sorry!), but you can get a very similar look using the Sun Rays Embossing Folder. I added the baseball jersey and a bat and ball cut with the Sporting Goods Die Set on top with foam adhesive. To finish off the card, I embossed a sentiment from the All Star Sentiments Stamp Set in white on Cosmic Sky Cardstock and added it to the front with more foam adhesive.
TENNIS LOVERS BIRTHDAY CARD
With tons of different sports represented in the Sporting Goods Die Set, I had to use this one again on another card. I cut several tennis rackets out of white, Island Blue, and Cosmic Sky Cardstock and pieced them together with liquid glue. Then I cut a bunch of tennis balls out of Peridot Cardstock (the PERFECT tennis ball color!) and highlighted the embossed lines with a white gel pen.
To mimic a tennis court, I trimmed a piece of Fern Cardstock to 4″ x 5.25″, embossed it with the Geo Screen Embossing Folder for a little texture, and adhered the rackets and balls to the left side with liquid glue. Once dry, I trimmed off any overhanging edges and mounted it on a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive. To finish off the card, I embossed a sentiment from the All Star Sentiments Stamp Set onto Fern Cardstock and popped it up in the lower right corner with more foam adhesive.
2023 CRAFTY ADVENT CALENDAR
Before I go, I want to mention two more amazing things being released today so that you can grab them before they are gone. I have opened this one and will be back very soon with a video walk-through of the dies included as well as two easy holiday projects made with one of the sets to inspire you to get stitching. I can tell you that the designs are all very beautiful and the stitching on them is very easy…so if you’re new to stitching, you will not be overwhelmed by these designs!
