After creating this Halloween mirror for the Silhouette blog last week, I kinda couldn’t stop playing around with my frosted glass vinyl. So, today I’m sharing another quick faux-etched mirror I made to celebrate my very favorite month of the year.
This is another one of those gorgeous phrase designs by Kolette Hall in the Silhouette Design Store…after some quick cutting and weeding, my mirror was near complete in just a few minutes. FYI – the wording only looks a little blurry when it’s photographed at the angle needed to eliminate the photographer from the reflection. 🙂
I thought it would be fun to try to add some color to my “glass etching”…since you can’t color glass while you are etching it for real. Using the brush end of my Copic markers, I applied the smoothest layer of ink I possibly could. Alcohol ink on vinyl can get a little streaky, so you have to be pretty careful when you apply it…I’d also recommend lighter colors for this reason. As you can see, I colored the word “October” too, but ended up not liking it and did not use it in my final project.
I thought the leaves looked nice, though, and just placed them in each of the corners. I apologize…this is a terrible picture of the final project, but I thought it showed the colored vinyl well! Although the quote is centered on my mirror, the long swishes on some of the words created an optical illusion that I tried to offset by placing the larger leaves on one side.
Thanks so much for stopping by and I would love to hear if you’ve tried the frosted glass vinyl yet! I’ll be back on Friday with a new freebie cut file. (Unfortunately, I’m traveling for work this week and just discovered that I had not uploaded the photos for Wednesday’s post before I left…so I will have to post that project when I return!)
