Sometimes less is more when it comes to foiling on cards. The new Effortless Greetings Collection by Laurie Willison from Spellbinders makes it super easy to construct clean and simple cards with just a touch of elegant foiling. Products in the collection like the Framed Details Glimmer Plates are perfect for both masculine and feminine projects, so I though I would share one of each today.
The trickling leaves in the Framed Details Glimmer Plate set first reminded me of wisteria, so I thought they would look great hanging within an oval window (cut with the Essential Ovals dies) that was framed with that beautiful modern double rectangular frame (foiled using Prism Hot Foil).
To create the multi-colored trickling leaves, I first inked a piece of white cardstock up with Worn Lipstick and Spun Sugar Distress Inks using a foam blending tool. Then I trapped the pink ombre ink under the leafy design by foiling the design using Opal Hot Foil and my Glimmer Hot Foil System. After inking over the panel again with Wilted Violet Distress Ink, the leaves remained an iridescent pink, while the background became a bright purple. (Opal Hot Foil is perfect for this foiled-resist technique because it leaves just an iridescent watermark design on your project!)
After matting the framed leaves panel with a piece of teal metallic cardstock, I added it all to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive. A sentiment from a previous Glimmer Hot Foil Kit of the Month (foiled in Moondust Hot Foil) and a butterfly from the Glimmering Butterflies Foil Plate set (foiled in Rainbow Hot Foil) were the finishing touches on this pretty and simple birthday card.
At second glance, I thought the leaves from the Framed Details Glimmer Plate set could also pass for some seaweed or even a school of fish, so I grabbed this leftover background panel that I had previously created with alcohol inks and Yupo paper and quickly added some foiled accents.
Did you know you could layer foiled designs? I added the leaf design first with Gold Hot Foil and the Framed Details Glimmer Plates, then added the sentiment right on top using the Sweeping Grateful Glimmer Plate and Cobalt Blue Hot Foil. The leaves don’t show through the foiled sentiment at all!
I hope you enjoyed these fun foiled card projects and thanks so much for stopping by today. You can shop the Effortless Greetings Collection now to add a little clean and simple foiling to your cards too!
