With about 10 million Downton Abbey fans in the US, surely one of my readers must have religiously watched the show…am I right? I had the opportunity to work with some of the fun new Crafter’s Companion papercrafting products that were inspired by the series, including the “Official Downton Abbey Luxury Cardmaking Kit” (available on HSN next week – March 16th). The kit contains enough supplies to make 50 cards (think lots of ornate patterns, gold accents, and vintage-y colors), but today I wanted to share a different kind of project – an embellished mat for a special framed photo.
My grandmother was born in the UK in the 1920s, so I knew this collection was perfect for remembering her as the series was set there during this time period. After cutting an oval out of one of the 5″ x 7″ card bases included in the kit and adding a little light inking and gold photo corners, I inserted a photograph of her from when she was about 4 years old and placed the whole thing inside of my frame.
Then, I just added adhesive pearls around the outer oval on the mat, a few pretty paper roses, and a sentiment (all of which are included in the kit). I love how a few quick embellishments can really help to make this special photo shine…and how well the collection complements the style of the stool she’s perched on and her dress.
Do you get crafty with your old family photos? Thanks so much for stopping by today and I would love to hear your comments!
