Cross Stitch Winter Snow Card

I’m embarrassed to admit that there are many, many stamp sets in my craft room that have never seen ink.  I sometimes breathe a sigh of relief when an older set of mine finally gets used, so it can feel like I’ve hit the jackpot when I think of multiple ways to use the same set.  The Cross Stitch Patterns set from Hero Arts turned out to be quite a versatile set once I really looked at it…you can build endless images from these stitched shapes for year-round cards!

I started by stamping a large snowflake onto some Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock using two flower patterns in the set and some Cornflower Mid-Tone Ink and Soft Granite Shadow Ink.  There are at least four different stamps that can be used to create a snowflake (I tried many!), but the four-sided center pattern and tulip pattern built my favorite snowy image.

I wanted to add my focal image to a darker background, so I die cut the snowflake with a circle die from my stash.  To make the image pop, I then die cut a slightly larger stitched circle mat from some Silver Bright Foil Cardstock.

I trimmed a piece of Periwinkle Cardstock to 4″ x 5.25″ and stamped a sentiment in Versamark Ink using the Cross Stitch Alpha stamp set and my MISTI for even spacing and straight alignment.  Then I added Silver Embossing Powder and melted it with my heat tool.  (The “wishes” sentiment is from an older Hero Arts stamp set called “Banners and Messages”.)

Then I stamped a random pattern of smaller snowflakes onto the background panel using a star pattern stamp from the set and Versamark Ink.  After adding white detail embossing powder, I melted it again with my heat tool.

Once cool, I matted the stamped background with a silver cardstock panel and adhered it all to a white A2-sized card base with tape runner.  Then I adhered the circle die-cuts together and popped them up in the center of the top of the card using foam adhesive.

I hope I’ve inspired you to join us over at A Blog Named Hero for this month’s “Stretch Your Stamps” challenge!  Get creative with your favorite Hero Arts stamps for a chance to win a gift voucher to the Hero Arts store!
