Two weeks ago, during the post-holiday slump, I mentioned that I wasn’t ready for bright spring florals yet…well I guess I found my way out of that slump! The Friendship Blooms stamp set has been sitting on my bench for months. Inspired by tons of beautiful samples all over social media, I bought it as soon as it was released. But once I was holding it in my own hands, I realized what a large image it was and knew I needed to set aside a good amount of time to color it. With the holidays and CHA sample prep behind me, now was the perfect time for me to break this one out!
I like a challenge, so I decided to turn this already huge image into a border around a 5″ x 7″ piece of Bristol Smooth paper. Using my MISTI and some masking paper, I stamped the Friendship Blooms image four times around the edges using Versafine Onyx Black Ink to form a nearly full border.
Next I colored clusters of the flowers in bright and warm orange tones using Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens. For each cluster, I just picked three shades of markers that would create either an orange, peach, or yellow flower, and used a fine detail waterbrush to blend out the lightest color for a highlight.
To add a little dimension and contrast, I decided to trim out the center of my panel with scissors, leaving a thin white border, so that I could pop it up over a deep teal background.
For some texture, I stamped the Fishing Net background image onto some Adriatic cardstock in Navy Mid-Tone ink. (I was going for a tone-on-tone look here and didn’t have an ink that matched perfectly…but I think the Navy ink still works!) Although my 6″ x 6″ background stamp couldn’t cover the entire 5″ x 7″ panel, the rose border would cover the blank area and no one would be able to tell.
Lastly, I stamped a sentiment from the set in the upper right corner using Versamark ink, added white detail embossing powder, and melted it with my heat tool.
After adding the teal background directly to a 5″ x 7″ white card base with tape runner, I popped the rose border up on top using plenty of foam adhesive.
I hope you enjoyed this bright floral card project and thanks so much for stopping by today. A new challenge begins over at A Blog Named Hero on the 15th with great prizes from Hero Arts, so I hope you’ll join us!
