Silhouette stamps always make a bold statement on cards and look amazing layered over an ink-blended or subtle pattern background. But what if you’re looking to add a little more interest to that solid image? Today I’m adding depth to this gorgeous new Slimline Oz stamp from Rubbernecker with a technique that can be used on any solid image stamp, and creating a cute slimline card perfect for Halloween or really any time of year.
- Trim a piece of white cardstock to about 8.5″ x 3.5″.
- Using a stamp positioning tool, ink up the Slimline Oz stamp all over with Fern ink, except for the figures in the stamp. Apply Hearth ink to the flying monkeys and witch and then stamp the image onto the white cardstock.
- Using a sponge dauber or foam blending tool for a smooth and seamless transition between colors, apply Grass ink to some of the areas of the stamp (I focused on the trees and upper areas) and stamp the image again.
- Next apply Basil ink on some areas of the stamp with a foam blending tool (I applied it on the castle and around the edges) and stamp once again.
- Continue to lightly apply layers of color until you are satisfied with the depth achieved.
- If you forgot to ink Dorothy and her sidekicks with Hearth ink during the first layer of stamping like I did, do so now. 🙂
- To seal in the color and protect it from the ink-blended sky, apply Versamark Ink to the Slimline Oz stamp and stamp once more. Add clear embossing powder and melt it with a heat tool.
- Blend Lavender, Magenta, and Azure Inks over the background panel from the horizon and up with a blending brush.
- Trim the panel down to 8.375″ x 3.375″.
- Mat the background panel with a piece of black cardstock trimmed to 8.5″ x 3.5″ and adhere it to a top-folding slimline-sized white card base.
- Stamp the Flying Monkeys sentiment onto black cardstock using Versamark Ink, add white embossing powder, and melt with a heat tool.
- Die cut the sentiment out using the smallest die from the Slimline Nested Stitch Die Set (cutting twice to frame the sentiment evenly) and adhere it to the background using foam adhesive.
I hope you enjoyed this fun technique and thanks so much for stopping by today. Be sure to check out Rubbernecker Stamps on Instagram or visit their Facebook Fan Group for tons of inspiration!
