I’ve always admired the style, but never actually tried to make a shabby chic card. When I saw the pretty new Rustic Cottage Collection from Crafter’s Companion (airing on HSN today for the 24hr Craft Event), I decided I had to give it a try though. Because 3D flowers…well, we all know I love them!
I let the patterned papers dictate my color scheme, and there was one page in the pad that had a gorgeous pink and purple rose on it. So even though it’s not the most realistic look, I combined two of the “Aged Rose” die-cuts to create the rose in the center after inking them separately with Victorian Velvet and Tattered Rose Distress inks. Then, to give my triad a little more visual interest, I rolled the other two roses a little tighter using only one die-cut each.
A few pieces of patterned paper that I distressed with the blade of my scissors form the foundation of this heavily-layered card. I piled up the lace ribbon, pearls and foliage in a manner that directs the eye to the layered banner and sentiment (“Cherished Memories” stamps & dies).
Although I’m much more comfortable with the classic and clean look, I had a lot of fun creating this card and might try again sometime in the future! What styles do you struggle with…and do you keep trying or just decide it’s not for you?
