Hello again! Today I have one more new release from Spellbinders to share with you and I think I saved the best for last! The Sparkling Christmas Collection is full of gorgeous holiday Glimmer plates and beautiful festive dies that make creating elegant Christmas cards easy. I used some of the new Glimmer plates from the collection to make two different style cards and demonstrate just how versatile the designs are.
This first card is relatively simple with a traditional Christmas color scheme. While I often play with lots of different colors of foil when I use my Glimmer Hot Foil Machine, I thought I would try foiling every layer and detail in gold and alter my cardstock colors instead.
So to begin, I foiled the largest border from the Christmas Essential Rectangles Glimmer Plates set onto green cardstock in gold hot foil and cut it out using the largest die from the Essential Rectangles Die set (all of the new Christmas Essential Glimmer sets are perfect companions to the previously released Essential Die and Hot Foil Plate sets). Then I added some of the designs from the Christmas Sweater Borders Glimmer Plates set to a strip of white cardstock in gold. Finally, I foiled all of the layers and leaves in the Glimmer Poinsettia Glimmer Plates set in gold onto red and green cardstock and cut them out with the coordinating dies.
To assemble, simply mat the green foiled background panel with gold and red cardstock before adhering to it a top-folding A2-sized white card base. Pop the white foiled panel up across the center of the card front using foam adhesive. Adhere the layers of the flower together with liquid glue, add a small gold jewel in the center and add the poinsettia to the center of the card with more liquid glue.
Aiming for a more elegant vibe with this card, I chose soft, non-traditional colors and added in a few elements from some of the newest collections by Becca Feeken. I rarely make shaped cards, but thought the beautiful glimmer borders in the Sparkling Christmas Collection were just begging for it!
First I foiled one of the beautiful greetings from the Elegant Holiday Glimmer Sentiments set onto some white cardstock using Skybright Hot Foil and my Glimmer Hot Foil Machine. Then I added a subtle sentiment border around it using Matte Silver Hot Foil and the largest design from the Christmas Essential Circles Glimmer Plate set and cut it out with the largest die from the Essential Circles Die Set (perfect companions again). To create the scalloped mat layer, I cut Silky Sky Satin Cardstock with the two largest dies in the Elegant Twist Circles Die Set.
I wanted the look of a variegated poinsettia this time, so I foiled the flower layers onto white cardstock with Pink Hot Foil and the leaves onto white cardstock using Skybright Hot Foil and the Glimmer Poinsettia Plates set. Once cut with the coordinating dies, I very lightly applied Rose Red ink to the flowers and Speckled Egg Distress Ink to the leaves with a foam blending tool. For a little dimension, I bent each petal and leaf down the center before adhering them together with liquid glue.
To assemble, mat the white foiled panel with the Elegant Twist Circle layer and adhere to a circular white card base with tape runner. Arrange the flowers and leaves around the sentiment and adhere down with liquid glue, adding a layer of foam adhesive behind the largest flower for more dimension. Embellish each flower center with a crystal jewel.
