MINI SLIMLINE MERMAID CARD
I was having so much fun experimenting with Jane’s Mermaid Markers and AquaPastels that I created three different cards and wanted to share them all today. This first one started with the background…I had added a generous amount of water to some watercolor cardstock and was dripping different colors of ink onto them with the Mermaid Markers. The colors mixed beautifully and when the panels dried they reminded me of different parts of the ocean.
The lightest of my panels looked like water just under the surface, so I laid the Sunburst Stencil on top and swiped a damp baby wipe over it to remove some color and simulate sun rays. Once dry, I trimmed the panel to 3.25″ x 6.25″, matted it with some Mirror Gold Cardstock, and adhered it to a side-folding white card base with tape runner.
The images from the Singing Mermaids Stamp Set were stamped on watercolor cardstock and loosely colored with the Mermaid Markers before I fussycut them out with scissors and added them to the card front with foam adhesive. To finish off the card, I added a sentiment foiled in gold with my Glimmer Hot Foil Machine and the Yana’s Special Sentiments Glimmer Plates as well as a few gold rhinestones.
DEEP SEA MERMAID CARD
One of the other panels I created from dripping ink onto wet watercolor cardstock turned out much darker with deep blues and teals, so I decided to add some sketchy sand and seaweed to the bottom with the AquaPastels and blend them out a bit with water. To give it a dreamy, bubbly feel I then splattered clean water all over the scene and sopped it up with a paper towel.
For an ethereal look, I stamped the Glorious Mermaid image in a lighter ink onto watercolor cardstock and colored her in with more dilute Mermaid Markers before fussycutting her out with scissors. Then I foiled a fun sentiment from the Mini Sincere Sentiments Glimmer Plate Set onto white cardstock with Gold Hot Foil.
After matting the background panel with Mirror Gold Cardstock, I adhered it to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with tape runner. Then I added the mermaid and sentiment to the card front with foam adhesive to finish off this simple card.
FOILED FRIENDSHIP CARD
I was loving the blues and greens in my two previous cards so much that I had to try coloring a foiled image with the Mermaid Markers too. I love direct-to-paper coloring with markers because it’s fast and easy, and the Mermaid Markers work beautifully for this!
I applied Gold Hot Foil to watercolor cardstock using the Sweet Blooms Border Glimmer Plate and the Glimmer Hot Foil Machine. Then I quickly colored the images using the Deep Sea, Bluebottle, Byron Bay, Siren, and Pirate’s Gold markers. I pulled some of the color out at the edges with water, but really wanted to keep the image vibrant so only used it sparingly.
After adhering the panel to a top-folding A2-sized white card base with foam adhesive, I added a sentiment foiled in Cobalt Hot Foil using the Yana’s Special Sentiments Glimmer Plate Set with foam adhesive. Then I added a few gold rhinestones to embellish.
I hope you enjoyed these fun watercolor cards made with lots of Jane Davenport’s beautiful products.
